Thoughts About Orlando

My mind is rushing through so many thoughts and has been for several days now. I'm not even sure where to begin but first, I will say that I offer my condolences to the victims who survived and their friends and family as well as the friends and family who are now missing a loved one due to this tragedy.

Here we are days later and we now know more of the facts that occurred and the person who was behind this massacre.

Omar Mateen, 29-year-old American-born was on an FBI watchlist for years before this event occurred. He was killed in a police shootout. Omar's ex-wife describes him as violent and disturbed. His father hosts a show based out of Los Angeles and it is said he has expressed appreciation for the Afgan Taliban.

Michael Brown - Juvenile Record 2nd Degree Murder?

UPDATED: NBC News is stating that Brown had no top felony convictions but the records remained sealed.

Yes, that's what's being reported. A reporter who claims to be connected with law enforcement is saying definitively that Brown had a juvenile record and one glaring charge involves 2nd degree murder.

"Gentle giant" Michael Brown is being linked to a gang and second degree murder.
michael_brown_graduation_peace

The information should indeed be made available to the public and let us not forget this "gentle giant" had previously engaged in a strong armed robbery merely moments before this shooting occurred.

Just listen to Dorian Johnson. This is the person who was with Micheal Brown. Yeah, he's all shook up over the incident, isn't he?

How do I know he's lying? Simple. When someone starts off by saying, "We wasn't causing no harm to no one..." it's usually another way of saying, "The following story is complete bullsh!t." What he describes simply doesn't jive with reality. First he says that the policeman cursed at them - I don't buy it. Everything we know so far says the police officer merely wanted them to get out of the street, which makes sense. I firmly believe this cop wanted nothing more than to get these two out of the road. Cops do not generally go looking for a fight with two punks walking down the road. The police officer had nobody with him either.

Okay, but let's just say for the sake of argument that you believe this cop was a complete idiot and the very first thing he did was tell these two to get the "f@ck on the sidewalk."

Hesitation is also a sign of lying. Johnson first said truck, then car. Interesting that in the video below a witness also says "truck" describing the officer's vehicle. So which is it? Now I'm supposed to believe the cop opened his door and hit both of them? The door ricocheted off of them? How close were they walking together? Did you notice how big Michael was? If the door were thrust open, in order to hit them, it would only have ONE target, the other person would not have felt anything because the end of the door would have been blocked by the first person the door hit.

I made this very novice image in Paint in order to demonstrate this visual:
Okay, it seems to me that according to Dorian, we can conclude that Brown was closest to the officer's truck/car, which would make him the red cross and Johnson the green. Notice how these are right next to one another and if you follow the blue line which depicts the path of the door, it's not going to hit him. This idea that the door hit both of them doesn't make any sense and I highly doubt they were even walking that close to the vehicle. I also have to question - if they truly saw this officer go in reverse, why weren't they up on the sidewalk at this point? Why place yourself so close to this police car? I don't understand. This clearly shows that Michael was not in any fear and placed himself in a dominate-type of position. The idea that this cop just decided to lash out at these two over walking in the street just doesn't make sense to me.

Dorian then goes on to try and explain the struggle. Here again, I'm sensing major deception. He talks about Brown as if he knows when Brown felt he was hit by one of the bullets. There's no way for him to know that. He says he was hiding behind a car but somehow saw Brown hold his hands up? He says Brown was running away but, stopped and turned around? Why would Brown do that?

I'm no expert. I'm not claiming to be but I've been around my fair share of liars and this guy is lying. They weren't doing anyone any harm but, I guess the robbery that happened just prior doesn't count? Or I guess they were done being bad for the day? Seriously?

Whatever happened that day, we still do not know for sure but, some of these details seem to lend credibility to the idea that the officer was indeed in fear of his life and was justified in shooting.

On the other hand, yes it's very possible that maybe the officer was trigger happy and should have handled the situation better. We will have to wait until we have the full story - forensics, witnesses, and the officer's official account of what happened.

The officer does have rights too. He's entitled to a fair shake, just like anyone else. Furthermore, if we expect the police to protect us, shouldn't we in return offer them respect and protect their rights. Call me crazy but, while I do expect police to adhere to high standards of conduct, in return I respect their rights.

While the jury is still technically out for me, I am having a hard time remaining unbiased considering Al "not so" Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have inserted their mugs into this whole fiasco. They have a habit of finding the worst people to stand up for. Surely they can find real racism, some case that is clear-cut, I mean after all, according to them it's everywhere!

That's what this all really boils down to for me. If racism or negative attitudes towards blacks in general is prevalent among police officers then why is it the cases that Sharpton and Jackson gravitate toward are all questionable? There must be some case somewhere that is obviously racist, right?

Your turn - what do you think about this case?

UPDATE: In light of the update for this article it seems odd that this is released but not the full record. In any event, I'm not sure in the end that it matters. Any past actions would likely not be allowed into the court as evidence.

Tragedy in Newtown

I have been trying for days to think of something to write pertaining to the massacre that took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

My heart is saddened and with my deepest sympathies I extend prayers and compassion towards all of those who have been involved in this tragedy -- family, friends, and others. May you find your way back to filling love in that part of the heart you lost.

Zimmerman Case - Mary Cutcher

The prosecution witness, Mary Cutcher has been a thorn in my side since she has declared herself an expert in identifying screams and apparently she also believes a man should be convicted based on her "feelings," not what she actually witnessed (I mean didn't witness).

Four Wounded, One Dead in Ohio School Shooting

The top story for today has been a school shooting in Ohio. It seems as though one student has been confirmed to be dead, while four others are wounded.
The suspected gunman, believed to be a student, was chased out of the school by a teacher and later apprehended about a half mile away. Authorities have not released the juvenile's name because he has not been charged yet.

Two of the male victims are in critical condition, another male is in serious condition and one female is in stable condition, according to local media reports.

The deceased student was identified by a hospital spokeswoman as Daniel Parmertor. His family released a statement through MetroHealth System spokeswoman Shannon Mortland that said: "We are shocked by this senseless tragedy. Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
Dear heavens, I really hope we don't have to hear about how sad the shooter's life is. The last thing we need to focus on is who he was and all the "pain" he went through from people hurting his feelings. Lock him up, throw away the key. Sorry. I am sick of living in a culture where I'm supposed to dole out sympathy equally among everyone. Some people just do not deserve it.

Majority of Americans Are Sane

AP – Jamie Saunders, of Tucson, Ariz., leaves a bouquet of flowers at a makeshift memorial at a local Safeway …

This just in...

...most of us are completely sane and, do NOT think political rhetoric *caused* the shootings in Arizona to occur. They even took a survey to prove it, which only further proves that the media IS insane, that they weren't able to come to this fact all by themselves.

I can't make this stuff up folks.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A majority of Americans reject the view that heated political rhetoric was a factor in the weekend shootings in Arizona which killed six and critically wounded a congresswoman, a CBS News poll said on Tuesday.

Since the Saturday incident in which Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot at point-blank range, various politicians and commentators have said a climate in which strong language and ideological polarization is common may have contributed to the attack.

Some of the analysts cited anti-government statements from the man arrested in the shooting, Jared Lee Loughner, as support for that view.

But CBS said its nationwide telephone poll found that, "57 percent of respondents said the harsh political tone had nothing to do with the shooting, compared to 32 percent who felt it did."

Rejection of a link was strongest among Republicans, 69 percent of whom felt harsh rhetoric was not related to the attack, while 19 percent thought it played a part.

Among Democrats 49 percent placed no blame on the heated political tone against 42 percent who did. Among independents the split was 56 percent to 33 percent, CBS said.

It said its poll of 673 adults had a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Here We Go - Jerad Lee Loughner

The stories are rolling in about Jerad Lee Loughner.

First, he took a goofy mugshot. He seems quite happy, doesn't he?

I suppose this is what they mean when they say, "A face only a mother could love..." If that isn't an eerie photo, I'm not sure what one would be.

Federal officials released Loughner's mug shot, showing him smiling into the camera despite hints of a black eye.

"Yes, I am Jared Lee Loughner," said Loughner, with a freshly shaved head, when the Judge Lawrence Anderson asked him to confirm his identity.

Holding up a financial affidavit, Anderson asked the Loughner, "I can't read your signature. I know how hard it is to sign with handcuffs on. Did you sign this?"

Loughner, with a fresh bruise on the side of his head, leaned forward to look at the paper and responded, ""Yes I signed it. Mrs. Clarke did help me out." Mrs. Clarke refers to his court appointed public defender, Judy Clarke.

Every federal judge in the southern district of Arizona recused themselves from the case because one of Loughran's alleged victims was federal judge John Roll.

It is now being reported that Jerad's family was not cooperative in allowing for the FBI to have access to their home.

FBI agents working on the Gabrielle Giffords shooting encountered trouble gaining entry to the suspect's family home Monday morning.

Family members of Jared Loughner apparently had put on 4-by-4 double-thick plywood that blocked access to the front porch of their north Tucson home.

At about 12:25 p.m., agents began banging on the blockade, yelling, "This is the FBI. Let us in."

Some agents were sent behind the house, and they were able to get inside after talking to family members.

It's not immediately clear why the Loughner family had put up the blockade, but there were reports of at least one media representative who had gotten to the yard of the family home earlier in the day. Loughner remains in custody and has an appearance in federal court later Monday.
His former classmate is describing him as a "left wing pot-head." So much for those evil right-wingers.

A classmate of the man accused of shooting Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords this morning describes him as "left wing" and a "pot head" in a series of posts on Twitter this afternoon.

Caitie Parker did not immediately respond to our request for an interview, but her "tweets" in the hours after the shooting paint a picture of Jared Loughner as a substance-abusing loner who had met Giffords before the shooting. She says, Loughner described the congresswoman as "stupid and unintelligent."

We've confirmed that Parker and Loughner went to school together at Mountain View High School in Tucson and that both attended Pima Community College, so her claims of knowing Loughner seem to be legit.
Parker "tweets" that she and Loughner were in the band together and were friends until 2007 when he became "reclusive" after getting alcohol poisoning and dropping out of college.

She describes him as "quite liberal" and as a "political radical."

Below is a log of "tweets" posted by Parker beginning around the time of the shooting.
  1. @antderosa it's loughner just checked my year book.
  2. @lakarune I haven't seen him since '07. Then, he was left wing.
  3. @noboa more left. I haven't seen him since '07 though. He became very reclusive.
  4. @antderosa he had a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in '06, & dropped out of school. Mainly loner very philosophical.
  5. @antderosa As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.
  6. @antderosa he was a pot head & into rock like Hendrix,The Doors, Anti-Flag. I haven't seen him in person since '07 in a sign language class
  7. @antderosa He was a political radical & met Giffords once before in '07, asked her a question & he told me she was "stupid & unintelligent"
  8. @antderosa I can. That is him.
  9. @antderosa I went to high school, college, & was in a band with the gunman. This tragedy has just turned to horrific.
  10. Official I went to high school & college, & was in a band w/ the gunman. I can't even fathom this right now.
  11. Saying Jared Laughner was the gunman. Really hoping that's not the same guy I went to HS with, really good friend. Freaking out right now!!!
Here's another article I found that you might be interested in reading.

Oh, and the Arizona Sheriff is blaming Rush Limbaugh. You can't have a left wing radical do something without blaming Rush!

The Arizona sheriff investigating the Tucson shooting that left U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded had harsh words today for those engaging in political rhetoric, calling conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh "irresponsible" for continuing the vitriol.

"The kind of rhetoric that flows from people like Rush Limbaugh, in my judgment he is irresponsible, uses partial information, sometimes wrong information," Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said today.

"[Limbaugh] attacks people, angers them against government, angers them against elected officials and that kind of behavior in my opinion is not without consequences."

Limbaugh today railed against the media and Dupnik for trying to draw a link between the heated political climate and the shooting rampage, calling the sheriff a "fool." But Dupnik stood by his assertions.

"The vitriol affects the [unstable] personality that we are talking about," he said. "You can say, 'Oh no, it doesn't,' but my opinion is that it does."
That's most of the stories so far.
