Your Conservative Views Are Inappropriate

Imagine if you were a college student who posted on Twitter and later were confronted by your school's officials, telling you that your views are inappropriate. Sounds a bit odd doesn't it? I mean we all know and recognize college as a place to express ideas openly, right? Oh wait, I keep forgetting that is not the case in the modern world.

His name is Harry Vincent and the school he attends is Texas Christian University.

Harry used his Twitter to express some not-so-politically-correct views. He damned the Muslim religion, used a slur about Mexicans, and complained about the rioters in Baltimore.
“These hoodrat criminals in Baltimore need to be shipped off and exiled to the sahara desert,” he wrote. “Maybe then they’ll realize how much we provide for them (welfare, college tuition, Obama phone’s, medicare, etc.”
In regards to Islam he wrote, “This is clearly not a religion of peace.”
He also used the word “beaner” a derogatory term to describe Mexicans.
Harry acknowledges that using the word "beaner" to describe Mexicans was wrong - although, speaking as someone who is partially a "beaner," I don't really find this offensive. Who cares?! Does using this comment automatically mean he's labeling ALL Mexicans? I really doubt it. Like most people in this country, he probably just doesn't appreciate the ones coming in here illegally and disrespecting the culture and language.

The religion of Islam does not appear to be one of peace. I don't see why or how this is in the least bit shocking. Broad brush? Sure but, sometimes those are necessary when engaging in political conversations - especially those that are limited to 140 characters.

Vincent does not apologize for the other remarks and I don't blame him. He was suspended.

Awwwh but, not for long. It seems as though this was appealed and the decision was overturned. They will however require him to do 60 hours of community service and take some sensitivity training.

Apparently this all started when a former grade school classmate of Vincent's viewed his Tweets and decided to encourage her social media audience to call his school and complain. According to Vincent, this is someone who has long bullied him. So someone who did not even attend this school decided to throw a fit over comments just because she didn't like what was being expressed. In what world do these types of people consider this to be okay? I do hope someone finds who this is and gives her a slice of Twitter-outrage pie.

There is no right to not be offended and I'm not sure the exact date of when this idea took hold in America but, this type of action is getting out of hand. I am glad this young man was not suspended and I do understand them perhaps warning him of using racial-type slurs. There seems to be some legitimacy in a school not wanting one of their students to use a slur so freely and they ARE a private school. However, let the punishment fit the crime. Sure what he did warrants a discussion, maybe a warning but, suspension was too far and I'm grateful they realized this.
