Shaun King and His "Race" Issue

Shaun King has been recently "outed" as a white man. King is one of the movers and shakers of the #BlackLivesMatter campaign and he also is a justice columnist for The Daily Kos, a far-left wing website.

According to most reports, Shaun has long claimed to be bi-racial, having a white mother and black father. He even received a scholarship from Oprah for school. A scholarship designed to help black students go to school.

Breitbart's Milo Yiannopoulos has dug up an old police report where King's race is clearly listed as white and his birth certificate seems to confirm this information as well. The police report was made in 1995. Shaun has long claimed he was the victim of a racist attack.

King claimed a group of self-described "red-necks" beat him up so badly he was left clinging onto life. He has also stated this was listed as a hate crime. Yet the police report shows the incident occurred between him and only one other person; it was not a hate crime, and listed his injuries as being minor. Furthermore, he was not beat up because he was black but rather because he was a white boy dating a black girl  which of course does not change the fact of the crime being wrong. It merely tells a different story that doesn't match what King has previously stated.

The revelation of King's whiteness reminds many of the recent story about Rachel Dolezal, another black activist who turned out to be...well, white.

Yeah, they look nothing alike. Pffft.
King did what many people do these days - take to Twitter and rant. He carried on and on with a slew of posts where he attempted to address the accusations but those Tweets only left people asking more questions. He finally did write a response article and again nothing of too much substance; he did seem to suggest his mother did a lot of sleeping around and had an affair. He admitted to being told for a long time that the man on his birth certificate was not his real father but that his mother had been seeking out pleasure from another who was of  mixed race. King has yet to name who this mixed man is.

Other issues around King involve fundraising. He collected money for Haiti but those funds have long been in question. He also asked for money in order to write a book through Kick Starter and it seems that many people have not received the copy they were promised. Many complaints have been made but seem to go unnoticed by King. For more details, visit this site.

The problem here is not so much that the guy enjoys being around black people - lots of people do! The problem is the guy by all appearances is a con man. For whatever reason he took on a black identity in order to scam money off of people and so far it seems to be working. The reaction from the black community has been mixed. Some people perhaps have yet to see the photo above and how this man looks exactly like this white daddy so they tend to think he may have a drop of black blood. Others see him as someone who is a complete fraud. I'm sure others are unsure what to believe. Nobody wants to be deceived and being presented with such information can cause some to go into denial.

The other reason the story is so popular is because it comes on the heels of another similar story - Rachel Dolezal. This women pretended to be black and it appears she did so for personal gain. The fact that anyone even considers doing such a thing certainly calls into question, "Just how bad is it to be black if people are faking their ancestry to gain access into this race?" Let's face it, the left has long lectured America about the poor lives of blacks in America. It's just horrible to be black living in such a racist nation. Yet, if this is entirely true, someone needs to explain why anyone would choose to be black when they are indeed white? The narrative just doesn't fit.

Another question people are asking - "What is being black?" If you accept anyone as being black - even a drop of black blood then why are they not considered white as well? Why are they not considered mixed? When will we just be American?

Currently the left is doing their best to frame this story as a bunch of conservatives who are racist and out to attack poor King. No, we are NOT racists. The right is merely pointing out the hypocrisy of identity politics. For a guy who started #BlackLivesMatter, being white he should also recognize that #Americanlivesmatter. We have to get away from this nonsense that continually divides us. If one drop of black blood makes you black, well then we might as well all claim to be black and blacks should all claim to be white. The color of someone's skin simply does NOT matter. It's the character of the person and unfortunately, Shaun's CHARACTER does not appear to be all that stellar. That is the REAL issue.
