Charles Rangel Acting Up Again

Click title of this post for article.
Congressman Charles Rangel caused a stir in court Friday while trying to lend his support for bail of Afrika Owes.

Owes, 17, had been a student at the prestigious Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. Prosecutors say she was also a member of a drug gang that terrorized 137th Street in Harlem.

Owes was one of fourteen suspected  “137th Street Crew” gang members arrested last month. Prosecutors said the gang used shootings, beatings and robberies to protect their turf and gain street status on a stretch of West 137th Street. The gang allegedly openly dealt crack in apartment lobbies, near Harlem Hospital and near the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

WCBS 880′s Irene Cornell reports Rangel caused a stir in the courtroom, repeatedly standing up and interrupting the judge.

A court officer told Rangel three different times to sit down. When he stood up again, Judge Edward McLaughlin had apparently had enough.

“I see someone standing who should not be standing, unless you have a bad back like I do,” McLaughlin said. Rangel sat down.

Rangel says Owes was a straight-A student and should be given a chance to straighten herself out.
“All the discussions on the question of public policy boils down to a 17-year-old arrested student remaining in jail,” Rangel said.

Owes is due back in court March 22.
I'm sorry but, this is ridiculous. What is he thinking, acting like this in a court room? This is supposed to be a  man who is a representative of the people, and shows at least some respect for our government and its law proceedings. There are ways to express yourself and your point of view without acting like a 5-year old child, throwing a fit because their mommy won't buy them cotton candy.

Mr. Rangel, you're a disgrace.

RealClearPolitics - Video - Rangel: "I Don't Deal In Average American Citizens"

How do people not see that the democrats are a bunch of elite jerks, that care about nothing but obtaining votes, by relying on ignorant people who can't think for themselves?

I can't stand Charles Rangel. I think this video gives me another reason to be disgusted with him.

Typical Democrat, Insists They Do Nothing Wrong -Rangel Censure

AP – In this Nov. 30, 2010, photo, Rep. Charles Rangel, D- N.Y.,walks to his office on Capitol Hill office …

As if I would expect anything different from a democrat. Any time they are caught RED-handed doing something, it matters not. They just dig their heels in the sand and insist that people believe they have done nothing wrong.

Charles Rangel, who will most certainly be censured is doing the typical song and democrat dance. Apparently, not paying taxes on 17 years of income received from a villa in the Dominican Republic, is okay if you're a democrat. Especially if you're a democrat that is always chastising those who have money and insisting they don't pay enough in taxes.

His argument is that censure is reserved for corrupt congressmen, and he's not one of them.

In a last-ditch attempt to influence the House, Rangel e-mailed about 25,000 campaign supporters
Wednesday. He asked them to call the Capitol switchboard to get connected to their congressmen and ask them to vote against censure.

Rangel was apologetic in his plea.

"I am truly sorry for mistakes and would like your help in seeing that I am treated fairly," he wrote.
Rangel said he posted arguments for a reprimand on his website, "which shows that the recommendation for censure is excessive and that my lapses do not rise to the level of transgressions of those censured in the past."

Gosh, could you even imagine if he were a Republican? This story would be all over 24/7, non-stop coverage.

Rangel Censure

AP – Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., speaks on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010. Rangel was …
The House ethics committee's chief counsel recommended Thursday that veteran Rep. Charles Rangel of New York be censured for financial and fundraising misconduct as lawmakers neared closure on a 2 1/2-year-long scandal.
Like how they put "Rep" in front of his name, as if he's Republican? Now, I notice the news does this when one of their own is in trouble. they use the abbreviation, instead of Representative. If it's a Republican that is in trouble, they will say, "Republican Representative," or "Republican Rep..." It's just a little trick the media does but, oh, they are not biased...don't go that far. You'd be judging them, you evil Christian you.

Chisam's recommendation was that Rangel receive the most serious congressional discipline short of expulsion. A censure resolution would require a vote by the House disapproving Rangel's conduct and the speaker would orally administer an embarrassing rebuke to the 20-term Democrat in front of his colleagues.

Censured? That's it? He's not getting thrown out on his butt? Who the hell elects this man in office in the first place?

Rangel - Guilty

AP – House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct Chair Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., leaves a close door …

The House ethics panel figured out that a liberal democrat like Charles Rangel and ethics, are similar to oil and water-- they don't mix. Then, again, to be fair, this seems to be the trend for most any politician.

Charles was convicted on 11 out of 13 counts of breaking ethics rules. Of course, Rangel is saying this is unfair. I'm sure the race card is coming up soon.

"How can anyone have confidence in the decision of the ethics subcommittee when I was deprived of due process rights, right to counsel and was not even in the room?" Rangel said in a written statement. "I can only hope that the full committee will treat me more fairly, and take into account my entire 40 years of service to the Congress before making any decisions on sanctions."

Deprived of due process? How long can we delay this, Rangel? Are you kidding me? You have been given special treatment as far as anyone else can see.

He called the panel's findings "unprecedented" because there was no rebuttal evidence. He complained that the rejection of his appeal for more time violated "the basic constitutional right to counsel."

Rangel, echoing a statement he made in August in a speech to the House, added, "any failings in my conduct were the result of "good faith mistakes" and were caused by "sloppy and careless recordkeeping, but were not criminal or corrupt."

So, let me get this straight...as long as my INTENT is okay and, just maybe "sloppy" that makes whatever I do okay? Hmmm....I'll have to remember this if I ever do something wrong. Last I checked, ignorance of the law is NO excuse. How does a man who talks about his years and years of service not know that very basic principle of the law? Yes, I went to college but, I've always known that and Charles' is really smart...

He also was found guilty of failing to disclose at least $600,000 in assets and income in a series of inaccurate reports to Congress; using a rent-subsidized New York apartment for a campaign office, when it was designated for residential use; and failure to report to the IRS rental income from a housing unit in a Dominican Republic resort.

Rangel Wants a Delay

AP – Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y. is seen on Capitol Hill in Washington, Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, before the …

Charles Rangel wants a delay in his trial. He needs more time to raise money for a lawyer. The panel said no. The evidence is so strong, they don't even need witnesses.

Rangel, 80 years old and a 20-term Democrat representing New York's famed Harlem neighborhood, implored a House ethics committee panel to delay, declaring in an emotional address that "50 years of public service is on the line." But the panel basically decided that the 2 1/2-year-old case had gone on long enough — and Congress had little time left to deal with it in the lame duck session that commenced Monday.
Rangel needs to just take some responsibility here for his actions.

"I truly believe I am not being treated fairly," Rangel said.

Charles Rangel Ethics Trial

AP – FILE - In this July 29, 2010 file photo, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., leaves his office to go to a vote …

Rep. Charles Rangel of New York will finally begin his ethics trial today. Rangel is being called to the carpet for not paying his taxes to Uncle Sam.

Seems like a slam dunk case to me. You would think that for someone who goes around complaining that people do not pay enough taxes, and wants to raise taxes, would actually PAY their taxes but, typical liberal...do as I say, not as I do.

Key charges portray Rangel as a veteran congressman who thought he could ignore rules on disclosing his assets, and improperly used official resources to raise money for a college center that was a monument to his career.

But an allegation that caught the public's eye was his failure to declare rental income to the IRS from a resort unit he owned in the Dominican Republic.

The charges allege violations of:

_A House gift ban and restrictions on solicitations. Rangel is accused of using congressional staff, letterhead and workspace to seek donations for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at the City College of New York. The requests usually went to charitable arms of businesses with issues before Congress, including Rangel's Ways and Means Committee.

_A U.S. government code of ethics. Several allegations fall under this code, among them: Accepting favors (the Rangel Center donations) that could be construed as influencing Rangel's congressional duties; acceptance of a rent-subsidized New York apartment used as a campaign office, when the lease said it was for residential use only; and failure to report taxable income.

_The Ethics in Government Act and a companion House rule requiring "full and complete" public reports of a congressman's income, assets and liabilities each year. Rangel is charged with a pattern of submitting incomplete and inaccurate disclosure statements. He only filed amended reports covering 1998 to 2007 after the investigative ethics panel began looking into his disclosures. He belatedly reported at least $600,000 in assets.

Will Rangel Cut a Deal?

Well, the Democrats sure want him to. Charles Rangel, the former chairman of the House of Means and Ways Committee, has a jury that is ready for him. They will discuss the charges and corruption that has been brought forth concerning the Representative.

Rangel's attorney has been negotiating with nonpartisan lawyers for the House ethics committee. Any agreement would have to be approved by Rangel and ethics committee members

The investigators looked at Rangel's misuse of his office for fundraising, failure to disclose income, belated payment of taxes and possible help with a tax shelter for a company whose chief executive was a major donor.

If this moves forward, the article is reporting that the trial will most likely take place in September. Several Democrats are asking for Rangel's resignation.

I think it's absurd this man wants to move forward but, if it's another Blagojevich, so be it. Rangel is just as much of a joke as Blago is.

Democrats to Rangel - Take Deal or Step Down

Charles Rangel, who has already stepped down from chairman of the House tax-writing committee, is being urged by top Democrats to either take a deal or, just step down.

Rangel is being accused of failing to pay taxes on a villa. He also had used his office to obtain contributions that went toward a college center.
