Will Obama Get The Stoner-Vote?

The election of 2012 will be rather significant. It will determine if this great experiment will continue or be destroyed within from the ever-pushing of socialist/communist ideas that come from the Obama administration.

Personally, I don't like being a fear monger and for me, there is always hope but at the same time it is completely foolish not to look back at history and not understand that we could be headed for serious disaster. Bad things can and do happen. Millions have consistently been slaughtered in the name of socialism and communism. It would be foolish to think, "that can't happen here."

Support for keeping a population on drugs typically comes from those on the left and people who describe themselves as libertarian (which is just another way of being a liberal). Is Obama counting on a bunch of stoners to come out and support the legalization of marijuana? Will these people also pull the level for another four years of Obama?

No questions about it, many people smoke or have smoked marijuana. One cannot argue that the drug is comparable to meth, cocaine, or LSD. Marijuana does not seem to have the same effects as those drugs do but is marijuana actually safe?

Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction, i.e., compulsive drug-seeking and abuse despite its known harmful effects upon social functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities.
Long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which make it difficult to quit. These withdrawal symptoms begin within about 1 day following abstinence, peak at 2-3 days, and subside within 1-2 weeks following drug cessation.
A number of studies have shown an association between chronic marijuana use and increased rates of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and schizophrenia.
With marijuana (as with other drugs), proponents of its use site other studies and have contradictory opinions.
When you speak with honest people who have smoked marijuana, they will tell you that it does take a toll by draining the person of motivation. It can make you lazy and as with anything taken in excess can cause damage to the brain and lungs. It is also addictive, despite the outcry you hear among supporters of marijuana use.

Some people have worked themselves into a state of delusion concerning marijuana that they will not even listen to anyone who has a different opinion on marijuana usage. This is reminiscent of liberals and how they will call you a homophobe if you simply do not support same-sex marriage.

In a world where people know that cigarettes are harmful and cause a variety of problems including lung disease and cancer, it seems almost absurd for these same people to argue that marijuana is perfectly okay to smoke. Have you looked at a marijuana pipe? After just smoking out of a pipe for a few weeks, you can see the resin that sticks to the side of the pipe. It's thick, black/brownish, and can be very difficult to remove. That only comes from smoke passing through the pipe and into your lungs. Now consider the smoke that is actually held inside the lungs for several seconds at a time. How much resin ends up inside of your lungs and can anyone possibly argue this is healthy?

It seems to me there is a greater danger here and that is denial. Most of the people supporting marijuana usage seem to believe that there is nothing wrong using it and since they refuse to think anything of the contrary, they are putting themselves in danger.
In 2012, voters in swing states will decide whether they'll allow their fellow citizens to bear joints. Unlike the gay marriage votes, there's no indication that Obama's re-election team is behind any of the pot legalization initiatives, but there are Democrats who are hoping that it will boost turnout among weed's biggest fans: young people.

With all the talk in New York about limiting sodas and going after fast food companies, it seems absurd to think we should legalize pot. Then again, the democrat party is known for their evil tactics in order to win elections and if that means keeping the public drugged, then so be it. These people would love nothing more than to have more minds chemically altered so they can manipulate even more.

The initiatives on various ballots across the country that will legalize the use of marijuana should certainly cause people to be concerned. Marijuana will obviously become much more accessible and our youth will be much more likely to experiment with its use. No matter the propaganda that you see on the internet these days, which all seems to glorify the use of marijuana, using this substance paves the way for many to move on to harder drugs like cocaine and ecstasy. No, not everyone who uses marijuana goes on to use other drugs but those that have tried other drugs and have struggled with addiction do report that they started with the use of alcohol and marijuana.

Speaking of alcohol, yes it is most certainly dangerous and it is legal. One could make great arguments about how it is actually more dangerous than weed and how our government was corrupted when it decided to favor its use over the use of marijuana. I'm not a strong supporter of alcohol. In fact, for some reason when I have tried to argue the dangers of marijuana, I am suddenly labeled a person who supports alcohol. If we already have problems with alcohol, why do some desire to compound these problems with legalizing even more drugs?

The main difference I see with alcohol and other drugs like marijuana is a person can have a drink and not get drunk. Many people can enjoy a beer after mowing their lawn and be perfectly fine. You do not need to drink with the intention of becoming intoxicated. With other drugs, you are using them to get high, period. There is no "in between" or just having a puff and not expecting to feel anything.

The legalization of drugs does concern me because our government should be encouraging people to stay away from all harmful substances. They might not necessarily have to run ad campaigns but, they certainly do not need to advocate their use through legalization. Our government is supposed to encourage morality in the individual. It is our moral responsibility to take care of our own lives so that we can take care of others. When people act with self-interest as well as with strong morals and convictions, they simplify their lives as well as the lives of those around them. Drugs complicate life for the user as well as for those living with or around the addict.

One of the main reasons our country is falling apart is because we have made our lives so complicated by insisting that we make no judgement concerning people's behaviors. So, by all means toke up but don't expect your problems to be solved and don't expect to help anyone else. Empty lives governed by addition ultimately create destruction. Yes, I become very skeptical and concerned when the people in government that are supposed to be serving the people start advocating for people to destroy their own lives.

If people would do their homework instead of just listen to the media, they would realize that Ron Paul is the best candidate for the stoner vote. He wants to legalize it and says its not the governments business to get into your personal affairs.
