George Zimmerman - New Evidence

I finally have some time to listen to the interviews and statements. George Zimmerman's legal case website has made all this new evidence available. The first interview, listening to George, he sounds very calm. He did not ask for an attorney or refuse to answer questions, even though he was told he had a right to do so. Investigator Singleton did the first recorded interview with him and it is available in two parts.

Highlights Part 1:

It takes a bit for this interview to get moving because of some interruptions. George does reveal that Trayvon had first circled his vehicle. After Trayvon took off, he did get out of his car and was told not to follow Trayvon. He also says that Trayvon approached him and punched him first. So far, there is no new information here. He appears to give a very consistent story.

She asks him if he needs to go to the hospital and he says he doesn't know. She makes note of his head being swollen and that he was told his nose was broken.

Highlights Part 2:

This part is an continuation. It appears as though there is a gap between the first part and this part of the interview. Singleton explains that she has some more questions for Zimmerman. She begins to ask specifics about various locations, clarifying where Zimmerman was at certain points leading up the altercation. We cannot see where he is marking his location on the map since it's just audio but she asks him to label his various locations.

Zimmerman explains that when he first sees Trayvon he attempts to call the police but, he loses site of Trayvon and then Trayvon comes back around. At some point, Zimmerman actually moved his vehicle, then Trayvon circled his vehicle while Zimmerman is on the phone giving his description to police. It's clear from Zimmerman's description that Trayvon was not interested in going home. He was clearly going back and forth and checking out Zimmerman.

Highlights Interview with Serino, Feb 27th:

The only thing surprising here was that it was very short. The details given are the same that Zimmerman told before. He does indicate that he thought Trayvon was going for his gun.

Highlights Video Interview by CVSA Expert on February 27:

In this video, you can clearly see Zimmerman's head has bandages in the back where he was attacked. It almost looks like one of the bandages is popped out as if the area under it must be badly swollen.

The first part of this recording is just a police woman/interviewer (I think it might be Singleton from the first interview), sitting down near the door and Zimmerman is at a table, facing a two way mirror. This sort of casual tactic is commonly done when you listen or watch police interviews. The police are just trying to make him feel comfortable and see what he might reveal.

He does talk about how he has very little insurance which effected his decision to go to the hospital. Zimmerman actually asks her some questions about her job and some inconsequential stuff that really didn't pertain to anything. He asked her how long she had to work and she explained that they are given 6 hours between shifts.

Finally a man comes in and things get quite formal. He asks him about medications that Zimmerman is on and he mentions Aderol. He explains that he is giving Zimmerman a voice stress analysis test. Zimmerman agrees to take the test and the administrator gives him some specific information on how the test works and what they will be monitoring. The idea obviously is to determine whether he is telling the truth concerning the events of that night.

George begins telling his story and again, pretty much all the details are the same. He talks a little bit more about how he was feeling, maybe a few added details but that is expected when someone is retelling their story because information might come back to them. He also repeats the story about someone with a flashlight. This person was brought up in a 911 call where someone told the police someone was out there with a flashlight. Zimmerman said he thought it was a cop but when he asked the person they said no and asked if they needed to call the police. Zimmerman told them he already called the police, but he needed help restraining Trayvon. Apparently, he didn't realize that Trayvon was dead.

George seems calm but he also appears to be in shock. It's like he's moving in slow motion. You can almost feel it because many of us have had those "unbelievable" moments where you just cannot grasp what's really going on around you.

George does offer some insight as to why he left his vehicle. He explains that when he has seen these suspicious people before, they just take off and he assumed this was going to be the case with Trayvon as well. He wanted to see if he could get a better location of where Trayvon was headed so, he didn't feel he was putting himself in harms way.

The administrator goes over all of the questions that he is going to give Zimmerman and then he moves Zimmerman so he is facing the wall. He asks him both irrelevant questions and relevant questions. There are 9 in total. The questions are given and then the process is repeated.

Video Reenactment Highlights:

This is a good video that I found that matches with the witness statement.

Aside from a couple differently worded statements, which is to be expected, Zimmerman is surprisingly consistent in all of his details. I can't imagine having to recall all the details of an altercation like this because I would assume it would be very fast and confusing, especially if you're being attacked.

Highlights Serino interview part 1 on 2/27/12:

Serino talks about Trayvon and talks to him about neighborhood watch. Zimmerman explains that there had been previous problems in the neighborhood and that's why he was on alert and why he noticed Trayvon.

Serino tries to explain how mild mannered Trayvon is and how he had a bright future (yeah right I'm not buying it). He then tells Zimmerman that the entire altercation may have been recorded. He tells Zimmerman that one of Trayvon's hobbies is video taping everything. Well, that sounds like a lie to me because we have not heard this before or seen anything concerning him video taping anything.

Now you would think that the supposed guilty Zimmerman would get a little nervous about this supposed recording but instead he says that he prayed to G-d someone had video of this. That response right there is something to ponder. Obviously this line of questioning was done in order to trip up Zimmerman.

Serino then attempts to question Zimmerman about his injuries, suggesting that they do not add up to what he was telling. Serino says that someone called him and said that they have a different version of events. Again, this is just more lies to trip up Zimmerman but, he doesn't fall for any of them because he's obviously telling the truth. Serino also shows him a picture of a woman who I guess was his ex-girlfriend. He asks Zimmerman if he has problems with black people. He asks about Zimmerman being arrested.

All this stuff was covered in the media but we now know that Serino was the leak in the police department. Matt Gutman confirmed this information on his Twitter page:

Now this is another story altogether, which I will get back to but, for now I think it's important to keep this in mind especially when these interviews have now been made public for us to listen to.

Serino asks about why Zimmerman was unable to give an address when there are only three roads in the complex. He explains he has a bad memory, and is being treated for ADD. He also says that the street names have changed before.

Serino continues on and mentions this "other witness" with a different story. He says that there was more of an argument that took place between the two men beforehand. Zimmerman remains consistent in his story. He repeats that he lost Trayvon when he took off running. Serino explains that he was headed back to where he was staying so, if that's the case, how the hell did Trayvon end up being where he was if he had just gone home? It's pretty obvious that Trayvon went back and confronted Zimmerman and it wasn't for polite conversation.

"The child has no violent record," Serino tells Zimmerman. Oh yes, those videos all over the internet of him referring fights and his Twitter account show him to be mild-mannered. Let's just forget that he was actually suspended from school during the time of this shooting. Serino is definitely playing the role of bad cop and apparently he's doing a great job because he is a bad cop.

Highlights Serino interview part 2 on 2/27/12:

I should note that the first part of this interview is difficult to hear. Some parts of these interviews sound like there is something rubbing on the microphone but since there is no camera, I have no way of knowing what that interference is.

Serino begins again and asks about the actual encounter between Zimmerman and Trayvon. Again, it's difficult to hear Zimmerman. This section was only about 5 minutes. Nothing revealing.

Highlights Serino interview part 3 on 2/27/12:

Brandy and Rebecca join in on this third part. Serino plays the 911 tape for Zimmerman and starts asking Zimmerman questions about what Zimmerman told the dispatcher. Zimmerman seems to forget some of what he had said but, we can clearly hear him say that, "these A$$holes always get away."

George is unable to describe the run as a trot, a sprint, or provide any real description. They also ask him about what he had said, the "f'ing ____" line that people speculated was, "f'ing coons." George responds that he said, "f@cking punks" without any hesitation. "Coons" I never understood because I just can't picture anyone using that term in modern times. However, it's always the racist who has these sort of words on their mind already, and simply projecting their own racism onto others. Zimmerman says that he was not following Trayvon but moving towards where he had seen Trayvon run. Serino says that the action is him following Trayvon. Zimmerman says he wasn't running and the noise was the wind. George says that he was looking for his flashlight. He wanted to have light for when he was going back to his vehicle. He insists that he wasn't pursuing Trayvon and was interested in discovering a better description concerning his location.

Serino plays one of the other 911 calls for him where you can clearly hear the loud scream from Zimmerman. Serino questions George as to why they didn't hear him stop screaming if Trayvon had went to suffocate him. Zimmerman does not have an answer nor is he able to explain why Trayvon was so mad that he decided to hit Zimmerman. Well, isn't it obvious this kid had some serious problems? It seems to me that Trayvon was filled with anger and was obviously up to no good that night. He didn't like that George called the cops and wanted to make sure he stopped him anyway he could.

Highlights Telephone Interview with Investigator Serino on March 25:

Zimmerman clarifies that he still has no attorney. Serino only really asks George about when he may be able to come visit with prosecutors. Nothing to reveal here other than Serino mentioning threats from the Black Panthers and how this has turned to be very big. Well, I guess that's what happens Serino when you run and tell the press everything, doesn't it?

Highlights Audio Telephone Interview with Investigator Serino on March 26:

This is just a confirmation call to arrange a meeting/interview with Zimmerman in Jacksonville. Serino asks George if he's been watching the news and George says that he hasn't been.

So far, these are all the recordings I have gone through. Nothing incriminating really points out to me. There may be some issue with the timing and perhaps this will get cleared up but it's really hard to piece all of this together since there are many different calls and it's difficult to know where Zimmerman claims he was during each of the stages. Did Zimmerman continue to try and follow Trayvon? Was he just casually looking for an address? Did the altercation last much longer than what we thought? Did Zimmerman recall everything that happened? I'm not sure I can believe he remembered every blow by blow and the whole point about his injuries not being enough are absurd. Different people react differently. There is no way you can hear that voice screaming and not realize the man was being harmed in some way.

So, after listening to these recordings, what do you think?

Now, it is being reported that Serino has been reassigned. He was the leak to the media - the one who gave them a recording of the video showing Zimmerman enter the police station and making it look like he had little to no injuries, forcing the police department to release the original footage.
The lead detective in the Trayvon Martin case has been reassigned to the Sanford, Fla., patrol division at his request, police announced Tuesday; he had recommended a manslaughter charge against  George Zimmerman, who fatally shot the teen.
Christopher Serino will begin his new assignment on July 7, Sanford police spokesman Sgt. David Morgenstern said in a telephone interview with the Los Angeles Times. The move is not a demotion and Serino will continue at his same pay grade, Morgenstern said.
Right, he's reassigned but he should be demoted and fired for his behavior. The Martin's found corruption alright! They found it was working for them, not against them. These dirty slime balls really irritate me. I hope Zimmerman is able to sue for their heads on a platter!

Matt Gutman seems to be backtracking a bit on his Tweet suggesting that he would never reveal a source but that certainly doesn't make any sense, concerning his previous post.

to be clear: I'd never reveal a source. The response earlier was 2 another tweeter abt something else!

Wow. Clearly someone is doing some backtracking and the question everyone has is why? Why would Serino leak any information about Zimmerman? Obviously the speculation involves the case where Zimmerman went up against the police concerning a homeless man who was beaten and the investigation was botched by the police department there. Was Serino paid for his information? It would seem as though he was given some sort of compensation. We know that someone close to the case was involved in leaking information and considering all the mention of Serino in the press, this new information, coupled with his transfer makes everything come into clearer focus.

Trayvon supporters are appalling. Instead of being outraged about a dirty cop botching this investigation, they are sticking up for this guy and insisting that there is nothing here and this type of behavior will not affect the case. It's unbelievable. So, corruption is only a problem if it's working against your cause? If corruption was found covering up for Zimmerman, these people would have a bounty on Serino's head as well. How can anyone not see the double standard here? It really does appear as though he had no intention of looking at this case in an objective manner. He had beef with Zimmerman and instead of telling someone that he was bias and unable to work the case, he took it on and then proceeded to leak to the press..

I have always been supportive of the police, even Serino, and have always carried a great deal of respect for the men and woman who protect our cities and our citizens. One bad apple really pollutes the credibility of a highly respected position.

There is the also the issue of Serino reporting to the press that he found Zimmerman credible so, I'm very confused as to where he actually stands. Was that just hype he gave in order to appear objective or take some heat off of him? It would be nice if he were to accept an interview to clarify all of these questions and what he believed and when. However with the volatile situation surrounding this case, I'm sure it will be impossible for him to do so. Will there be further investigation into him actually being the leak?

I am deeply disturbed about the people calling for justice and simply glossing over this type of corruption. If true, Serino displayed total disregard for a man's right to a fair trial. Instead the public opinion has been tainted by irresponsible leaks from by a bitter man who's job was to be neutral and objective. I still cannot understand how it is Trayvon supporters are not infuriated over this. Do they even realize how bad this makes them look?  I guess not.
