UPDATE: Liberals Striking Again -- Support For Leonard Peltier

Leonard Peltier, in case you do not know is a man who was convicted of murdering 2 FBI agents in 1975. He has been serving time in prison and now, the loony left like Michael Moore are calling for Obama to grant him a pardon. Lovely.

Leonard Peltier (born September 12, 1944) is a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement (AIM). In 1977 he was convicted and sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment for first degree murder in the shooting of two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents during a 1975 conflict on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. This charge was illegally changed to aiding and abetting.[1] 

Peltier's indictment and conviction have been the subject of much controversy; Amnesty International placed his case under the "Unfair Trials" category of its Annual Report: USA 2010, citing concerns with the fairness of the proceedings.[2] 

Peltier is incarcerated at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex, Florida. Peltier's next scheduled parole hearing will be in July 2024.[3] Barring appeals or parole, his projected release date is October 11, 2040.[4]

Judging by the information you find about this man, the fact that he's Native American might be a clue as to why someone like this would be an interest of the left. We all know how much they try to show outward love for minorities.




So will Obama grant this man a pardon? He very well could.

Update:

I've spent the last several days over the holiday reading more and more about this case. I will attempt to provide a quick summary of what happened:

In short, FBI agents had entered onto Pine Ridge in order to apprehend someone they were looking for. In doing so, the agents Mr. Jack Coler and Mr. Ron Williams found themselves being shot at. The series of bullets left both men injured and later approached at close range by Leonard Peltier, Darrelle (Dino) Butler, and Robert (Bob) Robideau. All of these men were a part of AIM, American Indian Movement. It is at this point the two agents were executed.

The trial for both Butler and Robideau produced an acquittal based on self-defense. It can be easily argued that the trail was skewed and purposely biased in a way that allowed them to avoid punishment for their actions. In Peltier's trail the trial can be considered much more fair in that the state was able to present their full case, leading to the imprisonment of Peltier. Peltier for years had maintained that he was not the person who had shot the agents at close range. In fact he provided a narrative that pointed to a Mr. X as being the one who actually carried out the final action.

Peltier's initial story of Mr. X was that he knew who the man was but was unwilling to identify him. Later this was changed to him saying that he didn't know who Mr. X was. After the acquittal of Robideu, who was now free to discuss his role in the shooting due to the double jeopardy law, insisted that he was actually Mr. X. After an interview with Bulter however, we learn that the idea of Mr. X was all fake and designed only for the purposes of helping Peltier build up a defense. Again I offer this link for a full review and understanding concerning the facts of this case. As you read, you will undoubtedly find that Peltier is a desperate man willing to say and do anything to get out of prison, avoiding punishment for his crimes. He expresses no remorse and his own words point to his undoubted guilt.

Peltier has made numerous attempts at appealing his case. Most of his defense has been about the fake Mr. X and going so far as to say the FBI was engaged in a conspiracy against him. All appeals have been denied and his sentence has been upheld. His guilt, at this point, is obvious and the man is exactly where he belongs. It can be concluded that his only hope will be from a president that will grant him a pardon.



At this point, we have three men with three different tales concerning the events that occurred the day of the shooting. All three men have changed their stories to suit their purposes.

In Peltier's recent written request for clemency (which you can read here), we can clearly see how it is reminiscent of a typical conspiracy rant. His letter is filled with questions that he wants the reader to believe have yet to be answered. The letter is filled with accusations of racism and actually claims the only reason he is in jail is directly related to him being an Indian, rather than the fact that he's a cold-blooded killer. The whole letter would be comical if it weren't serious.

The fact that liberal activists and celebrities are standing behind this man reveals that there is a true disconnect with reality among his supporters. There is no denying the agents were shot at and later at close range. The continuing story-changes only solidifies the fact that the man is a cold blooded killer who could care less that two men were killed.



Another fact that is important to this case concerns the event on September 9, 1975. The FBI ended up learning that Peltier was traveling in an RV and had also purchased a station wagon in Denver, CO. When a State Trooper from Oregon attempted to stop the vehicles, they were met with gunfire by a man (later identified as Peltier), who then escaped on foot. The handgun belonging to agent Coler was found in the RV under the seat and Peltier's thumb print was also identified.

It is interesting how the man claims he is innocent but immediately runs off after the shooting and somehow was able to gain access to Coler's gun, when he repeatedly denied going over to the location where the agents were discovered dead.

This is yet another story where the evidence points directly to this man's guilt, however by supporting him knowing full well this is a lost cause, the left can twist the story in a way that will represent this man as a victim of the government, calling him a political prisoner. In my estimation the support displayed for this man ultimately has nothing to do with Peltier (they know he's guilty), it merely is a way for them to exploit, lie, and point fingers in order to gain support for their ultimate cause.
