Cuomo and Paladino Debate

On Monday, the debate for NY governor between Cuomo and Paladino focused on repairing the state and control on spending.

Paladino called for cuts in spending on Medicaid and state-mandated education programs he called "debilitating."
"Our elderly are being taxed out of their homes," he said. "Our youth are being driven out of the state because they can't raise their families with these property taxes."
Currently, Cuomo is in the lead. A democrat winning in NY? I'm so shocked. This state is so predictable.

While the presence of several fringe candidates -- among them a former madam supporting legalization of prostitution and a candidate on the "Rent is 2 Damn High" ticket -- livened up the debate, Paladino and Cuomo were polite and restrained in their remarks.

Who in the world would pay that much money to listen to this guy speak? I know he's the president but, you already know what he's going to say, "Oh, those bad Republicans, they are selling snake oil" and, "We need to continue on to ensure the hope and change we promised."

Yeah, well, we lost all hope with you and it is true, we got plenty of change! We're all on foodstamps and unemployed. Thanks Obama.

WikiLeaks to Leak Again

More documents are set to leak on the Wikileaks site concerning the war in Iraq. A 120-member team set up by the Pentagon has been assigned to review up to 500,000 documents that are ready to be leaked this month.

It was the largest security breach of its kind in U.S. military history.

Defense lawyers said their clients were improperly lured into the case by an overzealous paid government informant and said they would likely appeal following a trial that was closely watched as a test for the entrapment defense.
The four men involved and who face life in prison include, James Cromitie, 44, David Williams, 29, Onta Williams, 34, and Laguerre Payen, 29.

Cromitie has been accused of being motivated by his anti-Jewish bias as well as a desire to participate in a holy war.

"Homegrown terrorism is a serious threat, and today's convictions affirm our commitment to do everything we can to protect against it," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement. "The defendants in this case agreed to plant bombs and use missiles they thought were very real weapons of terrorism."

Aqua Buddha? Debate Between Paul and Conway Gets Ugly

Reuters – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul addresses statements made by Democratic U.S. Senate candidate

The Senate debate in Kentucky got quite heated when Rand Paul was outraged over attack ads from Jack Conway. Paul even refused to shake hands with Conway.

The issue flared again in the closing moments, when Paul declared he would not shake Conway's hand afterward, stating: "I will not be associated with someone who attacks my religion."

"We will try to keep the debate on a higher tone," Paul said. "I hope you will leave my church, my family and my religion out of it."
Conway is accusing Rand of tying a woman up, while he was in college, and telling her that she needs to worship Aqua Buddha. Huh?

"Why did he freely join a group known for mocking, for making fun of people with faith?" Conway asked. "And secondly, when is it ever a good idea to tie up a woman and ask her to kneel before a false idol, your god, which you call Aqua Buddha?"

This story is unbelievable. First of all, it sounds like this woman is off her rocker but, second of all, even if this were true, it was obviously YEARS ago. So, did this woman go the police? You can't tie someone up without their consent. It's against the law. Sounds to me like some kinky sex was going on and this woman was probably dosing on a drug or two.  Also, can Conway explain how this is even relevant to the the debate? I would hope that whatever Paul did back in college was dealt with while he was a young man. I would also assume he is not the same person as he was back then, whether this happened or not.
Paul, a tea party favorite, advocated his belief in limited government and the free market.

Paul and Conway are competing for the job of retiring GOP Sen. Jim Bunning.

Vince Vaughn "Slapped" By GLAAD

In his upcoming comedy, "The Dilemma", Vince Vaughn has some dialogue that is being criticized by GLAAD. He berates a car, calling it "gay."

In remarks made public on Thursday, Vaughn said that he joins in the outrage over "bullying and persecution of people for their differences." But he insisted, "Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together.
Vaughn added, "Drawing divided lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop."
Well, GLAAD is mad. They have reportedly demanded that a trailer be removed and, that the offensive comment be completely removed from the final product.
A post on the organization's official website says: "Vince is right. Comedy does bring us together, unless one of us is the punchline. Then it pushes us apart."

Rule number one of comedy - someone or something is ALWAYS the punch line. You can't avoid that. You can't say one group of people are more important than others and, should be afforded some type of protection from being made fun of. Honestly, I believe this is the main reason conservatives from Hollywood are generally comedians.
'The Dilemma,' co-starring Kevin James, Winona Ryder and Jennifer Connelly, is scheduled to open Jan. 14.

****UPDATE****

For whatever reason, this post is getting a ton of hits lately so, I figured I should go ahead and do an update on here.

I have seen The Dilemma; I own the DVD and I got to see the "gay joke" which was funny as hell and of course Vince delivers the joke in a way that only Vince Vaughn can do. All he says is "electric cars; they're totally gay" and explains that "gay" is not "homosexual gay but, your parents are the chaperon at the dance 'gay.'"

The movie itself was pretty good. Everyone that knows me is aware I am a HUGE Vince Vaughn fan! I feel in love with him years ago from the movie Swingers -- which is literally my favorite movie.

As far as this movie is concerned, Vince has some great moments and one that stands out is the uncomfortable toast that he gives at a wedding anniversary of his future in-laws. Extremely hilarious dialogue mixed with tension and a general uncomfortable feeling, original and classic. Jennifer Connelly is a brilliant actress and easy on the eyes - even another female can see that. For whatever reason I've never been much of a fan of Winona Ryder but I would be lying if I said I was not thoroughly impressed with her in this movie. She is very believable and it's clear she's learned a lot from being in the business for so long. She truly stands out.

Kevin James is not funny. Now, I admit I have a bit of a bias because I just do not generally find the guy to be talented. Every time I see him in a movie, he is always performing with these amazing comedians like Adam Sandler and in this movie Vaughn, yet it's as if he drags everyone down. James plays the character of a car engineer/developer and there is nothing believable about it. Obviously people do find this guy funny, otherwise he would not be playing in all the roles he has so, I certainly respect that; I just personally am not impressed with him and this movie did nothing to change my mind.

In general, the plot was a bit disturbing for a comedy. However, I enjoy and appreciate the originality of this plot. It was even a bit thought provoking. The overall theme and moral of the story revolves around honesty. To me, this movie is responsible. There are moral lessons - importance of valuing marriage, honesty, truth, the value of hard work, and respect.  Don't get me wrong - these are not things that are pushed in your face during the movie. It's not preachy in any way; it merely allows bad things to happen and later reveals that the choices made were not wise. This is not a typical Vince Vaughn comedy so if you're looking for the Dodge Ball - Vince or the Old School -Vince type of comedy, this will not satisfy you. It's much deeper.

Moving along... Here is a video from The Young Turks where they talk about the "gay joke" controversy.

Wow. Talk about being politically correct. If this were a far-left liberal blasting Christians or white people, I doubt they would even care. In fact if they were to cover a story like that, they would almost certainly express no such sympathy for the target. I am impressed they mustered up the sense to support Vince and comedy but, why people on the left are so sensitive to the idea of gays being made fun of is just insulting to gays in general. What gay person is going to get that much sand in their hoo-ha over a silly joke -- that frankly was not even directed at them, in the true context of the joke?

When all is said and done, GLAAD looks completely foolish. Vince is money; so money.
