72,000 stimulus checks have been given out to dead people, and 17,000 were given out to prison inmates. I love how our government is right on top of things. I just can't wait for these people to take full control of my health care! How about you?
More than 89,000 stimulus payments of $250 each went to people who were either dead or in prison, a government investigator says in a new report.
Dead people were ineligible to get the payments. But, the report said, there is no provision in the law to recover payments incorrectly sent to dead people.
Dead people ineligible? Say it ain't so!
"Based on the failure of the SSA to properly check its records, and Congress' failure to fully think through the provisions needed to govern these payments, SSA lost $22.3 million in American tax dollars," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. "These findings are yet another example of congressional stupidity and a lack of accountability."
Stupidity? Nah...not Congress!

Here's an interesting gem I found.
Stimulus money was given to states to repair our infrastructure, however the states are using the money elsewhere.
I know...SHOCKER, right?
The AP then researched each bridge using the latest inspection data available from the Transportation Department.
This analysis found that:
- Many states did not make bridge work a priority in stimulus spending. More than half plan work on fewer than two dozen bridges and 18 states plan fewer than 10 projects.
- In 24 states, at least half of the bridges being worked on with stimulus money were not deficient.
- In 15 states, at least two-thirds of the bridges receiving stimulus money are not deficient.
