Give Us a Damn Pipeline Obama

Democratic leadership squeaked out a 56-42 vote. | John Shinkle/POLITICO

Obama lobbied hard to stop the passage of a bill that would allow an oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. The bill in the Senate required 60 votes but, only received 56. 11 of the votes were from democrats that crossed party lines and 56 is still the majority. If Canada is unable to sell the oil to us, they will sell the oil to another country, most likely China.

The American people want the Keystone pipeline. We do not want to increase our dependence on oil from the Middle East. Buying oil from Canada will keep the cost down as well as foster a positive relationship with our Northern neighbors. Unlike Middle Eastern countries, Canada is not hostile toward the United States.

With increased drilling efforts, the pipeline, and encouragement of improving green energy, we can not only keep the cost of energy down but, we can still move forward with other options. I'm not necessarily a "green" person but, I am all for trying to explore other options. Why not? It certainly doesn't hurt us to look for other energy sources. The problem is, at this point, we do not have the capability just yet and that is the reality. Europe tried increasing their gas rates in order to push for green energy but that strategy has not worked. It has only crippled people. The United States is not Europe. We rely on traveling far distances to ship out goods and especially food. When the cost to transport these goods increases, the prices continue to rise, further crushing the poor.

Here are the 11 Democrats that actually responded to the wants of the American people:
The 11 Democrats who crossed party lines to support the amendment were Max Baucus of Montana, Mark Begich of Alaska, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Jon Tester of Montana and Jim Webb of Virginia.

Waiting For Word On Oil Flow

Efforts by BP have been made to stop the flow of oil that is in the Gulf of Mexico. However, it could take several days before confirmation that the oil has stopped flowing.

The top kill is the latest in a string of attempts to stop the oil that has been spewing since the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon exploded April 20, killing 11 workers.
If the procedure works, BP will inject cement into the well to seal it permanently. If it doesn't, the company has a number of backup plans. Either way, crews will continue to drill two relief wells, considered the only surefire way to stop the leak.
A top kill has never been attempted before so deep underwater. BP Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said the company is also considering shooting small, dense rubber balls or assorted junk such as golf balls and rubber scraps to stop up a crippled five-story piece of equipment known as a blowout preventer to keep the mud from escaping.
I still keep hearing about how horrible BP is but, why on earth were they not shut down? It makes NO sense to me. The government will close down a restaurant that violates health code but, not an oil company, that is being reported as having violated many safety standards? It confuses me so much that BP would be so careless with their company. Having so many violations is not within their best interest. Losing all this oil is gaining them what exactly? They are going to be paying so much out of pocket for all of this. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Obama has basically blamed BP for everything and then, also blames the Bush administration (GASP), for having such a cozy relationship with BP and oil companies in general. Well, this didn't happen when Bush was in office. Sorry, Obama.

I don't know. Something doesn't seem right; one day Obama is saying to drill off-shore and then, the next day we have this oil spill. I really can't tell what's going on because, I just don't feel as though anyone is being honest. The whole story is odd.

Drilling Off of US Coasts

"We're announcing the expansion of offshore oil and gas exploration but in ways that balance the need to harness domestic energy resources and the need to protect America's natural resources," Obama said, according to his prepared remarks released in advance by the White House. "This announcement is part of a broader strategy that will move us from an economy that runs on fossil fuels and foreign oil to one that relies more on homegrown fuels and clean energy. And the only way this transition will succeed is if it strengthens our economy in the short term and long term."

Well far be it from me from giving the man some credit. Good for Obama. I actually agree with something he's doing.

Pardon me, my jaw appears to be laying on the floor.
