"I want every Indian citizen to know: The United States of America will not simply be cheering you on from the sidelines," Obama said inside the soaring legislative chamber of the capital city. "We will be right there with you, shoulder to shoulder, because we believe in the promise of India."

Hmmm...okay. This seems like such an odd trip, going to India.

I've never been to India but, I've always liked the people I've met from there.

India fits Obama's agenda perfectly because it is the world's largest democracy and sits in the heart of a pivotal, vexing region.


The diplomacy in India also gave Obama a chance to reassert himself on the global stage, far from Washington in the aftermath after humbling congressional elections.

Well, I guess he had to go somewhere that he could feel popular.

Obama wants to endorse India to have a seat on the Security Council in the UN. Why? Why are we even in the UN? Wouldn't we ultimately be causing more problems for India by getting them a seat? I can't stand the UN. It's a total waste.

Pakistan criticized Obama's statement, accusing India of "blatant violations" of U.N. resolutions and calling on the U.S. to "take a moral view and not base itself on any temporary expediency or exigencies of power politics." China has long objected to India's proposed ascension to the council.

Obama coupled the Security Council endorsement with an admonition for India that "with increased power comes increased responsibility." He said it is leadership, not intervention, when a country acts to the stop the oppression of another.

Oh, thank you, Obama. We know what a great leader you are so, your words of wisdom are immediately absorbed. *sarcasm*

Obama Heads to Asia

Obama is headed to Asia for 10 days of fun and diplomacy in India, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan.

The trip aims to "open up markets so that we can sell in Asia, in some of the fastest-growing markets in the world, and we can create jobs here in the United States," Obama said Thursday. "And my hope is, is that we've got some specific announcements that show the connection between what we're doing overseas and what happens here at home when it comes to job growth and economic growth."

Apparently, this trip has nothing to do with the elections but, was already scheduled. There are meetings in South Korea and Japan that he must attend as a world leader.
